Job Posting: Teacher Aide Position - MS/HS Library
The Addison Central School District is seeking a dedicated Teacher Aide. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children in classrooms or educational settings. Primary placement will be in the MS/HS library with additional duties as determined by building leadership. Key responsibilities include:
*Check books in and out, check books for damage, and make small book repairs as needed
*Re-shelve books that come in and maintain shelf order
*Maintain overdue and obligation lists and communicate those to staff
*Help make new books shelf-ready
*Help students and staff locate items in the library and/or help pull books to support teachers' units
*Help students with technology
*Assist librarian to prepare for makerspace activities and library events
*Create book displays and decorate library
*Maintain bulletin boards
*Type book labels, memorial book plaques, and other typing tasks
*Help maintain general order and supervision in the library
*Create and manage electronic library passes
*Assist with library inventory
*Lamination
*Answer phone calls and take messages
We are looking for someone who is a team player, dependable, consistent, kind, patient, and compassionate, with a strong work ethic.
The work involves responsibility for assisting teachers in the performance of their duties by performing a wide variety of non-professional tasks associated within the teaching process. The work is carried out in accordance with strictly defined procedures as assigned and directed by a certified teacher and involves relieving a teacher of that part of their duties, which while related to the teaching process, can be performed by non-certified personnel. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a certified teacher, but with some leeway allowed the incumbent for the exercise of independent judgment in the performance of those tasks, which are routine and/or clearly defined. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
· Assists in overseeing the technical operations of computer-aided instruction, and assists students in the use of the specialized equipment involved;
· Assists teachers with their duties in various locations within the school;
· Performs a variety of duties for one or several teachers, such as typing tests and study materials from teacher's drafts, typing letters to parents from the teacher concerning their child’s status, need for conferencing, and may schedule meetings for teachers;
· Dependent upon grade or age level of student, may monitor student activity in ways other than the educational process e.g. oversee students during recess; in the library; during meal periods; in a PreK placement will change diapers as needed while supporting children during the potty training process, etc.
· Attends to the special needs of pupils with handicapping conditions and/or learning disabilities;
· Assists in technology preparedness;
· Prepares visual teaching aides for use by teachers during instruction;
· Proctors and otherwise helps in the conduct of examinations;
· May assist teachers in correcting test papers, recording grades, maintaining files, and preparing statistical reports; and
· Other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma. Previous experience working with children in a school setting is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS
Per Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district as involving direct contact with students, clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.
NOTE
This position is not designed to replace clerical positions such as Typist, Stenographer, or Clerk. It is not designed to assist a teacher in the teaching process.
