Job Description

This position involves responsibility for the performance of routine medical care and treatment of patients in accordance with detailed and well-defined policies, rules, and regulations. 

The work is performed in accordance with well-established and accepted professional nursing practices, special orders from physicians, rules, and regulations. 

Work is performed pursuant to treatment orders as given by Physicians, under the direct and continual supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. 

Does related work as required.

The L.P.N. will be placed in a Pre-Kindergarten classroom to support a student who has Type 1 Diabetes. This position requires supervision of student needs including: monitoring of health equipment related to diabetes, input of nutritional information, tracking and input of physical data/information, and close monitoring of physical and behavioral needs/changes. Candidate will be part of a student care team including School R.N.s, guardians, and building staff members.

Job Qualifications

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Possession of a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse is required for appointment.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

1. Working knowledge of nursing techniques and their relation to medical and surgical practices;
2. Working knowledge of hospital sanitation and personal hygiene;
3. Ability to apply therapeutic treatments as prescribed;
4. Ability to understand and accurately carry out detailed oral and written instructions;
5. Ability to document and maintain records and make reports;
6. Ability to get along well with patients and others;
7. Tact and courtesy;
8. Neatness;
9. Initiative and resourcefulness;
10. Emotional stability;
11. Sympathetic attitude towards the sick;
12. Good powers of observation; and
13. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
